How to Set Up Your ArtVend to Maximize Sales at Markets & Events

Bringing an ArtVend vending machine to a craft show or event isn’t just about offering another way to sell—it’s a customer magnet. People love the novelty of a vending machine, and when set up correctly, it can drive high sales and engagement.

Over time, I’ve fine-tuned my ArtVend setup to attract more customers, sell out faster, and require minimal explanation. Here’s how you can maximize your ArtVend sales at markets and events.

1. Place Your ArtVend at the Front of Your Booth

Your ArtVend needs to be visible and easy to use. I always place mine:

At the front of my booth – People notice it first and get curious.
Next to my sticker wall – This is my biggest revenue driver, and it draws traffic naturally.
With enough space – Customers need room to turn the crank and insert tokens comfortably.

💡 Why this works: Even customers who aren’t planning to shop stop by just to check it out, which can lead to impulse purchases.

2. Sell Mystery Items at a Discount

The best way I’ve used the ArtVend? Mystery deals.

🚀 Customers don’t want to pay full price for a random item, but at a discount, even for a B-grade, they’re all in.

My Most Successful ArtVend Pricing:

  • $1 items – (Not as successful)
  • $5 B-grade mystery items – 🔥 Best seller!
  • $15 items – (Less popular—people prefer impulse deals under $10)

How I Do Mystery Sales Without Confusing Customers:

They choose the item type: Pill case, cigarette case, or mirror.
The only mystery is the design. They still feel like they have some control.

💡 Lesson learned: Customers like a deal and a surprise, but not complete randomness.

3. Use Clear & Engaging Signage

The ArtVend should sell itself without you having to explain it all day.

The ArtVend Decal = The Silent Salesperson
My ArtVend decal has:

  • Where to get tokens
  • How much it costs
  • What’s inside
  • What each level contains

This eliminates confusion and makes the machine easy to use.

Future Plans:

  • "Tip any amount for a free spin"
  • "Buy two spins, get the third free"

💡 Why this works: The clearer the instructions, the less hesitation customers have.

4. Show Off What’s Inside

One of the biggest questions customers ask is:
👉 "What do the pill cases/cigarette cases look like?"

That’s why I always sell A-grade versions alongside the ArtVend.

Customers can see and touch the full-price versions before taking a chance on the mystery spin.
✅ This builds trust and confidence, they know they’re getting something good!

💡 Lesson learned: If customers can see a version of what they’re getting, they’re more likely to buy.

5. Restock Frequently—It’s a Good Sign!

At big festivals, I restock my ArtVend 5-10 times a day, sometimes even more!

If you’re restocking a lot, you’re doing it right!
✅ At smaller events, I usually restock 1-2 times.
✅ I keep track of how many tokens I sell to monitor inventory.

💡 Lesson learned: If people see others using the machine, they want to try it too.

6. Customers Love Tokens—Make It Fun!

🚀 People will literally buy a token just to check out the ArtVend.

💰 Customers like handing over a $5 bill to get a token, it feels like an experience, not just another purchase.

Bonus: Some customers collect the ArtVend tokens like souvenirs!

💡 Why this works: The novelty of the vending machine makes it feel special—customers love interacting with it.
