How to Turn One Product into a Whole Collection (Without Overcomplicating It)

One of the easiest ways to grow your product line and increase your sales is by turning one strong product into an entire collection. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel every time, just use your best-sellers as a foundation. Here’s exactly how I do it (and how you can too).

💡 Scroll down to get our Product Planning Template!

1. Start With a Best-Seller (Not a New Idea) 🎯

If something is already selling well, that’s your sign to build off of it. For me, it was cigarette cases. Once I saw how well they were doing, I knew I needed to:

  • Add more designs in that product category

  • Offer matching or coordinating items (pill cases, stash tins, etc.)

  • See what customers kept asking for

Pro tip: Your customers will tell you what they want more of, just pay attention to the sales data and your DMs. 📊💬

2. Repeat the Vibe, Not Just the Design 🎨

Instead of copy/pasting the exact same artwork on everything, I expand the vibe of the design.

For example:

  • My pill cases might use the same phrases or colors as my cigarette cases, but with different illustrations.

  • I may turn a best-selling sticker design into a pin or mirror with a twist.

This keeps the collection fresh but cohesive. 🌈✨

3. Use Product Families to Diversify Price Points 💸

Collections don’t need to be identical items. They just need to feel related. That lets you offer:

  • A lower-priced item (like a sticker)

  • A mid-tier item (like a pin or patch)

  • A higher-ticket item (like a case or bundle)

More price points = more sales. 📈🛒

4. Test New Formats at Markets 🛍️

Before launching a full collection online, I test product extensions in-person.

  • Do customers get excited when they see a set?

  • Are people asking for coordinating items?

  • Which item becomes the new anchor of the collection?

Real talk: Some products only sell in person, so test first before going all in. 🔍🤔

5. Use Bundling to Increase AOV 📦

Once you have a few items in the same vibe, bundle them together.

  • Create “starter sets”

  • Offer a discount for buying 3+ items

  • Add a freebie with full collections

This helps build perceived value and gives customers a reason to buy more now

6. Build Hype Around the Drop 📢

Collections feel bigger than one-off products, giving you the perfect opportunity to launch it like a drop.

  • Sneak peeks 👀

  • Behind the scenes 🎬

  • Early access for your email/SMS list 📲

Make it feel special and cohesive.

7. Keep the Collection Expandable 🔄

Don’t paint yourself into a corner. Collections don’t have to be limited-time or fully fleshed out at launch. Add to them over time, drop new colorways, or remix the same theme for different seasons.
