How to Get Customers to Order More (Without Being Pushy)

Every small business owner wants bigger carts, right? But getting customers to order more doesn’t have to mean being annoying or gimmicky. With a few smart strategies, you can guide shoppers toward buying more without making them feel pressured.

💡 Scroll down to get the Sales Booster Worksheet!

1. Offer Bundle Deals That Give Them a Goal 🎯

People love a deal, especially when it feels like a game or challenge. That’s why I always have some kind of “buy more, save more” structure.

  • 4 for $10 sticker deal – Almost everyone goes for this one. It’s fun, easy, and encourages customers to grab just one more.

  • Buy 3, get 1 free – I use this for anything priced over $10.

Tip: Put signage about your bundle deals right at eye level. It helps spark the idea even before they start shopping.

2. Use Strategic Price Points 🧠

Even small tweaks can make a big difference. I’ve learned to use even-numbered pricing and adjust based on buyer psychology.

  • Lowering my art prints by just $5 made them move so much faster.

  • Adding a $3 or $5 item helps people add “just one more thing.”

If all your items are priced too similarly, there’s no easy upsell.

3. Visually Group Items That Go Together 🛍️

Think like a merchandiser: what goes well together?

  • I group cigarette cases and pill cases next to each other.

  • I keep stickers up front, with pins and mirrors nearby.

Visually, it helps customers imagine grabbing more than one.

4. Add a Mystery or Surprise Element 🎲

When people are hesitant about price, a discounted mystery version is a great workaround.

  • My $5 B-Grade mystery spins are my best-selling use of the ArtVend.

  • I also sell mystery sticker packs made from older designs that didn’t sell.

It’s fun, low-risk, and people love the surprise.

5. Freebie Thresholds Work 🎁

Offering a free item at a certain cart total is a great upsell tactic and brand-builder.

  • I offer a free tote bag on orders $35+

  • I use the “follow us for a free lighter” sign to build social reach

This type of offer feels like a reward, not a sales tactic.

6. Use Your Data to Stock More of What Sells Together 📊

Shopify analytics show me what people tend to buy together. For example:

  • If someone buys a pill case, what’s their next most common item?

  • Are stickers being added to orders of prints?

Use that info to plan bundles or marketing.

7. Show the Value (Not Just the Price) 💎

If you’re offering handmade, high-quality, or niche items don’t just drop a number. Show what makes it worth it.

  • A sticker may be $4, but if it’s waterproof, weatherproof, and artist-made? That’s a steal.

  • A $15 pill case becomes a must-have when it solves a problem or makes them laugh.

Remind people what they’re getting beyond the product.
